As you may have already noticed by my prolonged absence, DJI is on hiatus, and will continue to be on hiatus until my Royal College Exams have finished. Sadly, I wasn’t able to organize things in the way I’d liked in time.  Thanks for being patient.  And for anyone who decides to stick around, I thank you.

Thanks to everyone who has left a kind message about wanting to help here at Deep Jive Interests.  I’ve been kind of bit busy as of late, but now that I have a temporary breather, I will be replying back to everyone who has expressed an interest.  In particular, I’d like to thank J. Angelo at BlogHerald and Lorelle Van Fossen for helping spread the word that I am looking for some interested folks.

One other specific bit of help that I also want to throw out is that I’m also looking to redesign DJI.  I wrote this current theme myself, but I don’t really have the time to put together a new one.  If you know (or happen to be) an up and coming Wordpress Theme Ninja, and would like a a crack at this particular blog, leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Just so that there’s no confusion — there’s absolutely no money in it for you.

But, on the other hand, you get the notoriety of saying that you created a blog, the chance to work with me (if such a thing is worth something to anyone), and the chance at spreading your own reputation around the blogosphere through my constant braying (for I will bray loudly if it is good).  And if the design is at all popular, maybe we’ll release it for public consumption as well.

If you’re interested leave a comment and we’ll try an hash something out.

Cheers!

Thinking About The Future

Hey folks,

Its been a while since my last post, but blogging will continue to be sparse as I am taking stock of all things blogging these days. Late yesterday, with much regret, I stepped down from my post as the Editor of the BlogHerald. The reasons weren’t personal, but, as they say in Hollywood, along the lines of having some “irreconcilable differences”. It was not something I did lightly, and it is something that I am actually doing with a lot of sadness. Over the past year I put a lot of work, time and goodwill into making what it is today, and I hope that I have left it in better shape than when I first took it on.

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and work with some great bloggers, some of whom are my blogging heroes. In that I do feel lucky and blessed to have a chance to learn a few new things and make some coin while doing it. Not everyone gets the chance to do what they love to do and get paid for it, and I did, and for that I am grateful.

At any rate, much like a year ago this date, I am considering what direction I should take, and it may take a while before I am blogging regularly again. For those of you who are faithful readers, thanks for being patient as these past few weeks on DJI have been sparse (reality check: bordering on empty). Things will pick up soon, I hope.

Cheers,
Tony.

PS. If you have any bright ideas you can, of course, leave a comment or email me personally at anthony {dot} hung {at} gmail {dot} com

Well, the contest is off due to a lack of interest — either because no one really likes the Chumby (come on, guys!), or perhaps because you can just pick one up off the shelf (via your browser, of course) for $179.

(Well, either *THAT*, or no one is interested in the prize)

The Chumby Is Awesome

First of all — I don’t have a Chumby to give away, I don’t even have one for myself.

But, man, looking at Dave Winer’s description of the thing, it makes me want one.

BitTorrent to distribute updates, cool form factor, widgets, a potential webserver? Its a geek’s wet dream.

In fact, I’d give almost anything to have one.

Which got me wondering: what would *YOU* give for a Chumby?

Leave a comment, and the most inventive / funny / disgusting / charming answer wins a free banner ad on Deep Jive Interests for the next month, which is a $70 value.

There are no limit to the number of entries, and the deadline is Monday at 8pm.

So, what are you waiting for? What would *you* give for a Chumby? :)

// alternatively, you could just buy one for yourself for $179.  But they don’t yet ship to Canada, so I will continue wishing for one, and if you’re interested in participating in this contest you could merely *imagine* that you’re in Canada as well. ;)

I wonder if adding a comments policy for the first time is like getting your first piece of blog spam — its another sign that your blog has matured so that not only are you dealing with blog spammers, but good ol’ fashioned trolls.

Anywhoo, this blog has persisted for some time now with generally well-meaning comments, but with a recent post and comments I think its time I laid down some ground rules.

The comments policy is over here, and is now linked to at the bottom of every post, and (based on the one I put together for the BlogHerald) basically outlines that I will keep comments unless the have content that:

  • is abusive
  • is off-topic
  • contains ad-hominem attacks
  • promotes hate of any kind
  • uses excessively foul language
  • is blatantly spam

For now I’m tolerating otherwise “anonymous” posts (i.e. fake name / email) provided the discourse is reasonable and adheres to the above.  And of course this being my blog, I get to arbitrate what counts as abusive, off-topic, ad-hominem, hate, foul language, and spam.  For all would-be spammers, take note: I have a liberal idea of what counts as spam (although being blog spammers they’ll be using automated tools to scrape RSS feeds, and therefore not actually reading these posts).

Anyway, I feel like its almost as if I’ve had to lay down hand-washing rules in a hospital — but there you are.

I rarely if ever delete or moderate a comment, but if it happens to yours keep the comments policy in mind before you get a hold of me.

RESOURCE: For those wondering about comment policies in general, Lorelle wrote a great one at the BlogHerald a few months ago.
