Its Confirmed: Jason Calacanis is Leaving AOL/Netscape

Amazon's S3 Kicking Ass while no one noticesAs I’m writing there is word from his official blog that its all done, J-Cal is out, and the NYT did, in fact, get it right.

(Therefore, I’ll take a second to humbly eat my words … MMmmmmm! Crow!)

Muhammad also spoke to Mr. Calacanis himself over at themulife.com where I actually heard it first that his stint as head cheerleader and netscaper is over!

Will this move be a lateral one? A vertical one? Or just straight out? I guess everyone will have to tune into that Gillmor Gang podcast.

UPDATE: Who is going to take J-Cal’s place?  Will it be Peter Rojas?

Will it be Peter Rojas? The short answer is no. What does Rojas know about Netscape? He is Weblogs Inc, I would bet on someone from within Netscape, either management, the development team, or one of the Anchors.

No, in all likeliness it will not be a Navigator.

Like I mentioned above, the answer is not Rojas. Read more here:

C.K. will be leading Netscape now that Jason is gone.

[...] First things first, there have been many questions regarding who will lead Netscape now? With many people actually wondering if it would be Peter Rojas. Like I said before, that would have made no sense, and so I am glad to hear C.K. say: I’m taking over the helm of the site with Jason leaving… [...]
