Really, Really Happy About PicnikSo, I know there are other online photo/image editors, but man, I have fallen in love with Picnik.  Sure, it uses Flash for its interface — but man, it uses *FLASH* for its interface!  It is so slick and smooth and *simple* I’ve started telling my non-tech friends/family/wife  to start using it for their every day photo editing — which usually amounts to some cropping and resizing, both of which it does very well.

Amongst its other features, you can also upload directly from your picasa web account (if you’re not using picasa, stop being a ninny and try it), or your flickr account, or your Facebook account, or directly from the web if you give it an address.  From there, you can do all manner of things, including the cropping and resizing, but also including a whole bunch of interesting filters.  While its in “beta” they’ll be free.

Now what I’ve started noticing just recently (as in just now) is that one of the newer features is that you can add *TEXT* to pictures.

Oh, happy day!

This actually makes putting images in my posts a whole lot *easier*, and better yet, I don’t actually need to be by my home PC (where I have offline photoediting software) to do it.  Picnik allows me to grab an image from the web, edit it in my browser, add snarky remarks as I need to (and sometimes the image speaks for itself although its not always the case), and then I’m ready to upload to Wordpress (after I’ve saved it).

In fact, the one thing Picnik lacks (I should addend that there are a few things it lacks, but this one thing is what I noticed) is the ability to push directly to Wordpress easily.  It kind of does that through another “email to website” function, but it doesn’t look as easy as it could be.  Because if it did that would be *real* handy. :)
