I think it is getting now to be kind of expected that you have a Twitter account, much like people expect you to have Skype/AIM/MSN IM account to contact you through. Agree with you that it is continuing to develop far past "what are you doing?" :)

I started using Twitter at a big festival where I was working for a Dutch public broadcasting company. They are the Twitter lords of Holland. They love and use it so much they build Twitter mashups for nearly every single festival. The boss of the New Media department recently announced that he was going to leave the company using Twitter.

I am following, and being followed, by my tight and loose connections in the Dutch media sphere. If something is happening in the Dutch Media sphere I will know it within a few minutes.

Twitter is my only application that I use on a local level. My whole online presence is English but I Twitter in Dutch 99% of the time. It would feel odd to address my 99% Dutch followers in English. But I still feel very new to the medium Twitter.
