Garth Shows Some Love (Its Rated “G”, Don’t Worry)

by Tony Hung on October 22, 2006

Garth Turner is a Monkey -- With a ViolinGarth Turner, a local Canadian politician who made headlines (but really, not enough in the blogosphere) for getting turfed from his political party because of his blog, sent some good ol’ blogospheric love yesterday by reprinting my old post in its entirety on his blog.

Apparently, I *amuse* Mr. Turner … which is fine I suppose. Since providing amusement is one of my seventeen objectives, I’ll take that as a compliment. ;)

I should just re-iterate for those Americans/ Europeans/ Asians/ Martians (Yes, I read my logs — don’t think I’m not watching you back!) who are glossing over what appears to be generally Canadian-oriented post (GO CANADA!) why I’m bothering to post on this.

Yes, not only is it to pat myself on the back, but to point out that Garth Turner’s blog is a blog we should all take note of, because — well, its a great Blog.

All political content aside:

1. its frequent: Garth Turner writes almost every day. That’s a bare minimum for a great blog, and he hits it.

2. its fresh: The content Mr. Turner writes about is topical and focused on Canadian politics, whether its stuff he’s directly involved in or no.

3. its well written: He has good spelling, he uses proper sentences, and he’s witty! Trifecta in my book.

4. Its interactive: Garth invites comments and participates with the conversation; without participation a blog is just a soapbox, and I would argue, not really a blog at all.

5. its passionate: Garth cares about what he’s doing and he writes in a (sometimes brutally) honest way about his opinions and convictions. For a politician, its like watching a monkey play the violin — you just don’t see it everyday, because you’re used to seeing them hurl their own poop at you.

Garth got turfed not because of some skanky sex scandal, but because he wrote what in what he believed in — and that’s the essence of blogging. It transcends where you’re from (I find Martians so long winded!), and so I think its worthy of notice.

Period.
